In a media briefing on Wednesday, November 6, Bagbin emphasized that his primary mission is to strengthen Parliament and ensure it remains a resilient and effective institution for the people of Ghana.

“Parliament is alive and working. It has not been dissolved, prohibited, suspended, or terminated,” Bagbin declared, addressing concerns raised following the adjournment of Parliament due to a lack of quorum.

The adjournment came after a walkout by NPP members, who staged the protest in response to a disagreement within the House.

He clarified that the adjournment was executed lawfully by the Speaker and that any disruptions to the parliamentary process are temporary, calling for calm and allowing the system to work.

Bagbin also addressed the importance of preserving parliamentary autonomy, stressing that recent events have underscored the need for a clear distinction between the legislative branch and the other branches of government.

“I cherish the role Parliament plays in our democracy, and my mission is to leave Parliament a stronger institution than I met it,” he added.

He urged the public and lawmakers alike to avoid panic and fear mongering, and instead trust in the system’s capacity to resolve conflicts through proper engagement and dialogue.

Bagbin emphasized that no individual or group would be allowed to disrupt the smooth functioning of Parliament.
