The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana’s economy is now borla.
John Mahama noted when he was in the government the NPP in opposition was pushing the narrative that he was borrowing too much but today our economy is at a junk status.
Speaking on GTV presidential encounters, John Mahama stated, “We had a credit rating of B-, and if you know that we are currently at junk status when they say your economy is at junk status it means it is borla, your economy is at borla”.
“At the end of our term in office, we handed over to the NPP we had a debt-to-GDP ratio of 55.6% I am sure many of you will be surprised because you will remember when I was president the NPP kept pushing the narrative that we were borrowing too much but our debt to GDP was 55.6% that all”, John Mahama added.
John Mahama further revealed the NPP borrowed until the debt to GDP was at 104%, saying, “And when I come to talk about their record, they borrowed until our debt to GDP went all the way to 104% and as I speak to you we are just about 87, between 85 and 87% and the adjustment we are making together with the debt exchange means that we are aiming that by 2028 we should bring the debt to GDP below 60%”.
