The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has described as a “pipe dream” the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) hopes of securing over 300,000 votes in the Volta Region.

John Mahama, who says he is positive of winning all the seats in the Volta and Oti regions by increasing the vote margins they obtained in 2020 says he is confident of making further strides in the Greater Accra region as well.

According to the presidential candidate of the NDC who was so confident of winning massively in the Volta and Oti regions, the NPP’s vision of securing over 300,000 votes from the Volta region in December is only a figment of their imagination.

His comments come on the back of claims by the National Communications Director of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, that the NPP is going to make strides in the Volta region come December due to the development the government has sent to the region.

Reacting to the comments, John Mahama, in an exclusive with TV3’s Komla Klutse indicated that: “I’m positive again that we can win all the votes in Oti Region. Once we increase the votes that we get from the Volta and Oti region and also increase our votes in Greater Accra.”

On the NPP’s number of votes in the region, he said “that’s a pipe dream. I don’t think NPP can get 300,000 [votes] in Volta region. Mark my words so we’ll look at the results when they come. We are going to win it.”

In his explanation, Mahama stated that residents of the region are aware of the NDC’s contribution in the development of the region, having engineered almost all the major developmental projects in the region.

“Volta region knows it’s the NDC that stands for them. Everything; regional hospital, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), electrification, water –Kpando water system, virtually everything is provided in NDC time,” he stated.

He also outlined the plans of the NDC for the Volta and Oti regions after wining the upcoming December elections.

“And we have very good plans for Volta and Oti regions. We want to do one of the special Agric processing zones in Volta and Oti because there is no mining in Oti so they have one of the most beautiful vegetation in the country and that’s blessing from God,” he stated.
