The National Democratic Congress (NDC), through its National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has strongly condemned the recent abduction of Madam Sylvia Patience Baah, the Emirates Airlines Airport Manager in Accra, by operatives of the National Security Secretariat and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

The incident, which took place on November 21, 2024, has raised serious concerns about the misuse of state power and the safety of citizens under the current government.

In a statement issued by Gyamfi, the NDC called the abduction an outrageous violation of human rights.

Madam Baah was reportedly kidnapped at the entrance to her residence in Accra, blindfolded, handcuffed, and forced into an unmarked vehicle by National Security operatives.

She was then driven for over two hours to an undisclosed location, where she was detained for nearly 24 hours, threatened, and ultimately abandoned near Ashaiman.

Gyamfi revealed that the abduction was allegedly linked to a dispute between Madam Baah and three individuals Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Benjamin Ansah, Operations Director of the NSB, and Rashida Saani Nasamu, a well-connected businesswoman.

The NDC believes the abduction was a retaliatory act for Madam Baah’s professional dealings with these figures and her stepping on the toes of powerful individuals within the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led government.

“The brazen impunity displayed by certain operatives within the National Security is a clear sign of the lawlessness that has plagued this government for the past eight years,” Gyamfi stated.

“This is yet another example of state-sponsored terrorism under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, and it is unacceptable.”
“Ghanaians are no longer safe under this regime of terror,” he added.

The NDC has called for an immediate, transparent investigation into the kidnapping and demanded the swift arrest and prosecution of all those responsible.

Gyamfi called on the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that the perpetrators face justice and that such abuses of power are deterred in the future.
