First-time voters at Jamestown, in the Odododiodio Constituency, are being cautioned against the pitfalls of vote buying, election-related violence, misinformation, and disinformation.
This timely warning aims to empower them to make informed decisions based on issues, rather than being swayed by inducements or false information.
Assistant Director of Programmes at the National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, Rebecca Cole-craft, underscored the importance of addressing these issues head-on. She stressed that the prevalence of vote buying undermines the credibility of Ghana’s elections, calling for stricter enforcement of electoral laws and increased voter education campaigns to combat this menace.
She emphasized the need for first-time voters to fact-check information before sharing and be cautious of false narratives, especially on social media platforms. The forum also highlighted the pressing issues of vote buying, election-related violence, and the importance of avoiding gifts from politicians.
The first time voters were also taken through the processes that they will go through when they queue to cast their votes. They were enlightened on the ballot papers and the ballot boxes in order not to have their votes rejected.
