The GFA presented the buses to the top 3 clubs in Zone One, Two and Three of the last season’s Access Bank Division One League.

The initiative is targeted at enhancing the transportation needs of these teams, and ultimately improving performance of players.

This gesture has however attracted immense backlash and criticisms from the football fraternity, with the buses being labelled as “death traps”.

In a video posted online, an unidentified man can be seen inspecting the buses. A closer look into the interior of the buses revealed some wear and tear, with some essential parts, including fuses missing from the bus.

“When you doing something do it well. You said you are giving buses to the various teams. We would have applauded kurt for the good work done. But if you (Kurt) can shamelessly present these buses to the teams and claim you have cleared these buses from the port for the clubs. Just look at the bus, the fuses have been torn apart. Instead of buying a Hyundai bus you could have even bought Toyota buses. You’ve (GFA) been disgraced,” he said laughing.

During the 23rd GFA Congress in Kumasi, Kurt Okraku emphasized on the need for improved transportation in the local league, and promised to support the clubs resolve this challenge.

“Back in July 2023, during our Congress in Kumasi, I identified the lack of transport as a key challenge for our clubs. This has led to players travelling in discomfort. To address this, we introduced the bus acquisition strategy. Today, we see the fulfilment of this promise by the Executive Council of the Football Association,” he stated.

He added that the buses were acquired through increased inflows generated by collective efforts and form part of the merit awards for the 2023/2024 season.
