KT Hammond mocks Mahama’s ‘24-Hour Economy’ proposal
Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, has ridiculed former President John Dramani Mahama’s suggestion of a “24-hour economy,” offering a satirical interpretation of the concept during a campaign rally for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing a crowd while campaigning against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), KT Hammond dismissed the idea, claiming it would burden workers with continuous, round-the-clock duties.
“Do you understand the 24-hour economy?” he asked the audience. “It means if you are a footballer, you will play in the morning, afternoon, and evening. If you are a teacher, you will work in the morning, afternoon, and evenings. Is that what you want?”
John Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy, as outlined in his campaign promises, seeks to create a system where businesses and services operate around the clock to maximize productivity, generate jobs, and boost economic growth. Proponents argue it could lead to more flexible work opportunities and greater efficiency in sectors like transportation, healthcare, and manufacturing.
