The Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia ha revealed in Kumasi during a stakeholders engagement that, effective December 1, all dialysis treatment regardless of age would be covered free by the National Health Insurance Scheme
After a successful six months pilot of free dialysis for patients under 18 years and 60 years and above, the Presidential Candidate has maintained that, it is going to be free for all age brackets under the National Health Insurance Scheme. He added that, to make this initiative a successful one for years, government will procure more dialysis machines to support patients.
” We took the bold decision to cover the cost for patients under 18 year and 60 years above. Now we have taken this decision to cover the dialysis cost for every Kidney patients effective December 1, 2024. We will also procure new dialysis machines to make this process successful”, he said.
This news will bring a big relief to Kidney patients who for lack of funds have resorted to unapproved treatment methods hiking the number of kidney related deaths. It will also be a sign of victory for advocates of such policies.
