Frank Lampard, the New Coventry City manger has described his interim job being Chelsea’s manager as a babysitting job.
Lampard was the manager of Chelsea between 2019 and 2021, after which he left to Everton for a year (2022-2023). The former Chelsea player was criticized largely in his role as caretaker manager of Chelsea in 2023 after the club poor under him. Chelsea managed to record eight losses and one win out of eleven matches which Lampard oversaw as manager of the team.
“When I rejoined Chelsea I went into a job that was a bit of babysitting from me, in terms of going in to tide them over for seven weeks,” the former England midfielder told reporters.
“And I learned a lot, not in terms of coaching because it was not a coaching job but a holding the baby job while the transition was happening. I learned if you don’t get the environment right then it’s very difficult to succeed.”
Frank Lampard argued that managers who were once former players to a large extent are greatly criticized than managers who never played.
He is however confident he will do a great job taking over as Coventry City manager and prove his critics wrong.
Coventry is 2 points shy of going into the relegation zone. Lampard has his work cut out for him to ensure the club remains in the League.
Coventry are 17th in England’s second tier with four wins in 17 matches. Lampard’s first game in charge will be against Cardiff City on Saturday.
