Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has launched a strong critique of President Akufo-Addo, suggesting that if statues were to be erected based on developmental achievements, his own statue would be found across the country.

Mahama made the remark following the recent commissioning of a statue of President Akufo-Addo, which he described as an “embarrassment” given what he sees as the limited developmental progress made by the current administration.

Speaking to supporters in Adjoafua, Bia West Constituency, during his campaign tour in the Western North Region, Mahama criticized Akufo-Addo for seeking praise despite what he perceives as a lack of substantial accomplishments.

He argued that if statues were to be erected based on significant developmental projects, he would have statues placed at several locations where he initiated or completed major infrastructure works, including Tema Port, Terminal 3, Kejetia Market, Circle Interchange, and other prominent sites of his administration’s major achievements.

Mahama also pointed out that the area where Akufo-Addo’s statue was erected remains underdeveloped.

He highlighted the nearby hospital, which remains unfinished, as a glaring example of the government’s failure to complete key projects.

Further criticizing the current administration’s record, Mahama noted that several important projects, including the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment, multiple ongoing interchanges, and roads near the statue, are still incomplete, despite the promises made by the Akufo-Addo government.
