John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that if he were president, he would have taken immediate action to move the ongoing parliamentary impasse case out of the Supreme Court.
Speaking to the clergy at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Mahama stressed that the issue surrounding the vacant parliamentary seat should be resolved through political dialogue, not legal proceedings.
He emphasized that the current impasse is not a legal matter but a political one that can only be settled through negotiation.
As President, he would have sought a political solution, as Parliament is not bound by the Judiciary and could disregard the court’s ruling.
Mahama also addressed questions about the internal divisions within the NDC, particularly regarding Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings’ decision to form her own political party.
He traced the rift back to the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills and explained that despite efforts to reconcile with the former First Lady, those efforts have not been successful.
