According to the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, he warned President Akufo-Addo and former Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye in 2020 to be cautious about the precedent they were setting by allowing former Fomena MP, Andrews Asiamah, to go independent.

Haruna Iddrisu told journalists in Parliament on Thursday, November 7, 2024, that the current “chaos” resulting from the declaration of four vacant seats was a direct consequence of events that occurred four years ago.

“When I had the opportunity to lead the Minority in Parliament, I told the president Akufo-Addo and Speaker Mike Oquaye to be careful about the precedent they were setting by removing the Fomena MP from Parliament because he went Independent.”

“They didn’t listen to my caution four years ago and what we are seeing today is because of that precedent they set. So blame them,” Haruna Iddrisu said.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has adjourned Parliament indefinitely after the NPP caucus boycotted the recall.
