According to her, she had high hopes when she supported the takeover of the Ada Songor Salt Project by Electrochem Ghana Limited, a company owned by business mogul, Daniel McKorley, commonly known as McDan.

Naana Korleki reminisced the day saying, “That day, I was excited. I thought we had found an investor who had Ada at heart, but I didn’t know it was someone who wanted to take everything from us and own it.”

Today, Naana Korleki is crying out that McDan’s Electrochem has taken more than the Traditional Council gave them under their investment Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

According to the MOU that was sent to parliament, McDan’s Electrochem was understood to be given the Songor Salt Project and connecting lands, measuring 12,428 acres. However, the legislature multiplied the concession to 39,126 (158.34 km²) acres for details that are yet to be known.

The two Members of Parliament from the Ada area Christian Corletey Otuteye, the MP for Sege, and Comfort Doeyo-Cudjoe, MP for Ada cannot give details as to why the concession was increased in parliament from 12,428 to 39,126 acres.

Meanwhile, on the website of McDan’s Electrochem, they stated the company has secured a concession of 41,000 acres at Ada Songor to produce 1,000,000 metric tons of salt per annum to supply to local and export markets.

Reports coming in have also revealed that the state-owned Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) handed a staggering US$30 million to McDan’s Electrochem for its Ada-Songor Salt project to secure a shocking 6 percent stake in McDan’s Electrochem for its Ada-Songor Salt project raising serious questions about who truly benefits from this deal.
