The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has issued a bold challenge to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He has called for a public debate between the NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), and the NDC’s running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
In an interview on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere, Chairman Wontumi argued that Napo’s track record as Minister for Education and later as Minister for Energy under President Akufo-Addo’s administration demonstrates his competence and suitability for the Vice Presidential role.
According to him, many Ghanaians are pleased with Napo’s nomination, despite controversies surrounding some of his campaign remarks.
“When we set up our first policy, Free Senior High School, he was in charge.
The same Napo, when he was transferred from education to the energy ministry, he was equally good.
It’s about the policies, making sure they are good,” Chairman Wontumi stated, crediting Napo for the successful implementation of key government policies.
For Chairman Wontumi, a debate would allow Ghanaians to assess the strengths of both Vice Presidential candidates.
“What can you do? What have you done? This is how you can judge Napo.
Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang has to meet the debate mano a mano for everybody to see,” he challenged.
