Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has challenged President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia, and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to publicly consume samples of the controversial moshosho rice if they genuinely believe it is safe for students.

This challenge comes in the wake of a significant rice scandal involving the Ministry of Education.

During a press conference, Chairman of the Assurance Committee, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, accused the Ministry of Education of negligence and dishonesty regarding food safety for students.

Ablakwa pointed out that while the Ministry initially claimed ignorance of the situation, Deputy Minister Rev. John Ntim had been in communication with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) as early as January, undermining the Ministry’s credibility.

Ablakwa criticized the Ministry’s attempt to justify extending the rice’s expiration date from December 2023 to April 30, 2024, calling it alarming and indicative of the Ministry’s failure to protect students.

The NDC Caucus’s strong stance aims to hold the government accountable and emphasizes the need for transparency in food safety matters affecting students.

As the public watches closely, the pressure mounts for government officials to respond to the challenge and ensure the well-being of Ghana’s future leaders.
