The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) is raising serious concerns about disturbing behavioral issues within its ranks, including alcohol misuse, drug abuse, and incidents of sexual misconduct.
Speaking at the GMA’s annual general meeting, Dr. Frank Serebour, the association’s president, highlighted that these issues compromise patient safety, as affected doctors continue to treat patients despite these risks.
Dr. Serebour emphasized the urgent need for action, revealing that the association faces multiple lawsuits tied to medical and professional negligence.
This legal burden, he noted, reflects the gravity of these professional misconduct issues, which not only threaten public trust but also jeopardize the standards of medical care in Ghana.
