National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has strongly criticized the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP), accusing it of imposing severe hardships on the Ghanaian people.

According to Mahama, many Ghanaians have been negatively affected by the DDEP and are suffering in silence, while the government remains indifferent to their struggles.

Speaking to a crowd in Kasoa, Awutu Senya East Constituency, as he began his Central Regional campaign tour, Mahama cited the recent death of Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, CEO of Kama Group, who had openly criticized the DDEP.

Mahama pointed to this as evidence of the program’s detrimental impact, emphasizing, “Government bonds are supposed to be the safest investments in the world, but not in Ghana under the NPP.”

In addition to his criticism of the DDEP, Mahama expressed his disapproval of President Akufo-Addo’s decision to unveil a statue of himself, questioning the timing of such an action in the midst of the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

He stated that the president should allow his achievements to speak for themselves, rather than seeking self-promotion at a time when many Ghanaians are struggling to make ends meet.
