Anytime there is Ghana and Nigeria I’m the scenes, it subtly becomes a keen contest in every sphere of these two West African countries, and it is undoubtedly to say Ghana keeps winning over them.

Over the weekend, there was another win for Ghana as Ghanaian screen goddess Jackie Appiah clinched the most coveted awards in the African cinema industry.
She won the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs).

The award is for her exceptional performance in the movie “Red Carpet.”

She faced off fierce competition from the likes of Girley Jazama (Under The Hanging Tree) Oyin Oladejo (Orah), Unati Faku (The Queenstown Kings), Uzoamaka Aniunoh (The Weekend), Laura Pepple (This is Lagos) and Efe Irele (A Smile, A Wink, and A Tear)

The awards night, which was held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Lagos, brought together the heavyweights in the African movie industry. Jackie Appiah’s award adds up to her numerous honours she has achieved over the past decades, underscoring her remarkable dedication to the movie scenes even in the face of a ‘dying’ Ghanaian Movie Industry.

The movie “Red Carpet” was directed by legendary Frank Rajah Arase and also featured some of the big wigs in the elite Ghanaian movie industry like Salma Mumin, Grace Omaboe, Selly Galley. Adjetey Annang, Abeiku Santana, and a host of others
