NDC National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has hit out at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of attempting manipulative tactics to influence the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) into withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race.

Gyamfi alleged that the NPP had tried to get the GFP to pull out of the contest in order to alter the positions of candidates on the ballot paper. However, he confirmed that these efforts had “fallen flat.”

Taking to his Facebook page, Gyamfi shared an update, refuting the claims of GFP’s withdrawal and confirming that Philip Appiah Kubi, known as Roman Fada, has officially filed his nomination as the GFP’s presidential candidate.

This follows recent rumors circulating on social media, which suggested that the GFP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had submitted a letter to the Electoral Commission, dated November 5, 2024, announcing their decision to withdraw from the race.

The letter, signed by the GFP’s National Organizer, Richard Botchway, cited the recent passing of their founder, Madam Akua Donkor, as the main reason for stepping down.

However, Gyamfi’s post dismissed these reports as false, stating: “BREAKING NEWS: Philip Appiah Kubi, A.K.A Roman Fada, has successfully filed his nomination as presidential candidate for the late Akua Donkor’s party, GFP.”

In an interview with Yawa News, GFP General Secretary George Afful reiterated that the party has filed the nominations for its candidate and remains fully committed to contesting the December 7 elections.

The GFP has called on its supporters and the public to disregard the misleading claims and assured them that the party is prepared to continue the legacy of Madam Akua Donkor.
