Policy analyst and President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has called out the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for what he describes as “double standards” regarding their stance on small-scale poultry farming initiatives.
Cudjoe pointed out that while the NPP Communication Team mocked former President John Dramani Mahama’s proposal to distribute cockerels as part of a small-scale poultry initiative, the government had implemented a similar program in 2020.
According to paragraph 173 of the 2020 Budget Statement, the government distributed 80,000 cockerels to 4,000 farmers across 14 regions and 182,000 layer pullets to 1,400 women farmers in the same regions.
Cudjoe expressed disappointment that Dr. Bawumia, who was present in Parliament when the Finance Minister presented this initiative, had also mocked Mahama’s proposal.
He questioned whether Dr. Bawumia’s actions were indicative of oversight or hypocrisy, highlighting a deeper issue of consistency in the political discourse.
“This is not just about the poultry initiative; it’s about integrity and consistency in policy-making and public communication,” Cudjoe noted.
