A coalition of aggrieved members from the Nmati Abonase, Abese, and Leshie divisions in La has accused the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, of interfering in traditional matters and taking illegal actions that threaten the integrity of the chieftaincy system.

According to the coalition, the Minister has attempted to circumvent the ongoing legal processes by pressuring the La Traditional Council to admit individuals with unresolved legitimacy issues as chiefs.

This comes after the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, along with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, suspended the operations of the La Traditional Council in September, directing all government institutions to refrain from engaging with any individuals or groups claiming to represent the council.

The suspension was a result of ongoing disputes over the legitimacy of various factions within the La Traditional Council.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Nii Obour Fred Afful condemned the Minister’s actions, accusing him of disregarding legal protocols and exerting undue influence on traditional matters.

The group warned that these actions are not only undermining the legal framework but also posing a threat to peace and stability within the community.

They vowed to resist any further attempts to interfere with the traditional leadership of La.
