Many Ghanaians from the top of their head assume the Volta region gives the National Democratic Congress the highest number of votes in the General elections.
The Volta region has been known to be the World Bank of the National Democratic Congress, with the people of Volta coming out in their numbers to vote for the NDC, however, it has been revealed by the Member of Parliament of Asawase that in the 2020 elections, the Greater Accra region and Ashanti region gave NDC more number of votes than the Volta region.
According to Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka the Ashanti Region provides the second-highest number of votes for the NDC after Greater Accra.
Speaking to GHONE TV he detailed, “Even though this region is largely and predominantly NPP it is also our stronghold, I always argue that the Ashanti region is an NDC stronghold because, except for Greater Accra, the NDC gets more votes than any other region. No other region gets more votes for NDC apart from Greater Accra so for us it is also our stronghold.”
Muntaka claimed that the Ashanti region despite being the World Bank of the NPP, as a matter of fact, was the NDC’s second-highest vote in the 2020 election.
Fact-checking his claims on the Electoral Commission database, the NDC gathered 653,149 votes in the 2020 elections which is second to only the greater Accra region 1,326,489.
The Volta region comes in third with 600,508 votes, but percentage-wise Volta region stands as the highest with 84.81%.
