The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is in turmoil following the announcement of Roman Fada as the party’s new flagbearer after the death of its founder, Madam Akua Donkor.

Just days later, the party made a surprise decision to officially withdraw from the presidential race.

In a letter addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and signed by the Richard Boctchway National Organizer, GFP explained that the decision, though difficult, was necessary to honor the legacy of their late leader, Madam Akua Donkor, and her contributions to the party.

The GFP clarified that their withdrawal was intended as a posthumous tribute to Madam Donkor, marking her as the only person to have contested the presidency under the party’s banner.

While pulling out of the 2024 election, the party indicated its intent to participate in future elections organized by the Electoral Commission.

This unexpected move just days before the December 7 election could lead to significant changes in the ballot paper, notably reshuffling the positions of candidates.
