The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, has shared that a percentage of Ghanaians are not positive about the peace of this year’s elections.
According to her, some Ghanaians fear that the December 7 elections may not be peaceful as compared to previous ones. She said a range of people and some key stakeholders in the country anticipate some clashes characterized by violence during the elections.
“Unfortunately, my colleagues and I are frequently told by a range of people that they fear Ghana’s 2024 elections will be less peaceful than previous elections,” she said.
She made these statements during the celebration of the King’s birthday in Accra. She ceased the opportunity to call on well-meaning Ghanaians as well as politicians and influencers as well to campaign effectively on the road of peace ahead of December 7.
She emphasized further that, a disrupted election would really damage the reputation Ghana has on the globe recounting how the country has fallen off from its position on the peaceful country index.
“An election that’s not peaceful would be incredibly damaging for Ghana, as well as dangerous, of course, for those directly involved”, she added.
