Security analyst, Prof. Emmanuel Kwesi Aning has question the credibility of the electoral commission(EC) following reports of a ballot paper shortfall in five constituencies in the Volta Region.
The affected constituencies are Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West.
speaking on Joy News’ Morning Show, Prof. Anning noted that the shortfall raises serious questions about the EC’s preparedness and ability to manage such a crucial aspect of the electoral process.
“The credibility of the EC is now problematic, especially given the importance of ensuring that elections are free, fair, and credible,” he said.
An official letter from the EC has been sent to presidential candidates’ representatives, outlining the steps to rectify the situation and assuring that the ballots will be delivered in time for the election.
To maintain transparency and ensure accountability, the EC has called on all political parties and independent presidential candidates to send two representatives each to observe the printing.
According to the Commission. This will allow for independent oversight and confirmation that the ballots are being printed correctly and in accordance with the law.
The observation is set to take place on Friday, November 29, at 10:00 AM. Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairman of Operations, has reassured the public that the Commission is taking all necessary steps to guarantee the integrity of the upcoming election.
