Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ningo Prampram constituency, Samuel Nartey George, has accused President Akufo-Addo of being a pro LGBTQ leader.
According to him, it is for this reason that the president has refused to assent to the anti-gay bill and doing all he can to ensure the bill is not passed.
Same George mentioned instances and made revelations to buttress his point.
“Akufo Addo granted an interview and said if the LGBTQ (community) had enough advocacy in Ghana, LGBTQ can be legalized in Ghana. A year later, they came to open an advocacy office in Ghana,” he said.
“When president Akufo-Addo’s father sent him to Oxford, he stayed with his cousin, the son of JB Danquah called Paul Danquah. Today there is a book that celebrates the 100 leading figures of LGBTQ and homosexuality in the world. Paul Danquah is in there as one of those who are celebrated. In fact the only Ghanaian who is celebrated (by the LGBTQ community),” Sam Geroge revealed.
He added that Paul Danquah is currently buried by his British gay lover in Morrocco, as per his request in his last will and testament.
The Ghanaian anti-LGBT bill (formally the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill) is a proposed law in Ghana that would introduce wide-ranging restrictions on LGBT+ rights.
The bill was approved by the Parliament of Ghana on 28 February 2024 with bipartisan support and will only come into effect only if signed into law by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
However, they have been delays in President Akufo-Addo assenting to the bill as some private citizens have also filed suits against the bill, stating it is a violation of human rights.
