The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has called off its nationwide strike, which began on November 7, 2024, after a High Court order instructed them to cease the industrial action.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 11, CLOGSAG referenced their earlier letter (No. BA/14/2024) dated November 4, which had declared the strike, but confirmed they were complying with the court’s directive to halt the action immediately.
“By an order of an injunction dated 3th November, 2024, the National Labour Commission (NLC) secured an ex-parte injunction requiring CLOGSAG to call off the strike and further restraining the members of CLOGSAG from continuing with the strike.
“Being a law-abiding Association, CLOGSAG has taken into cognisance the injunction order. CLOGSAG hereby calls off the strike with immediate effect.
CLOGSAG has decided to call off the strike due to its utmost respect for the Court and the laws of Ghana.
All members are entreated to report to work. CLOGSAG assures members of its unrelenting efforts of ensuring better conditions of service for all.”
CLOGSAG had announced a nationwide strike effective November 7, due to the government’s delay in finalizing a new salary structure.
The union had previously announced its intention to proceed on strike in a statement dated October 22, anticipating that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would miss the October 31 deadline to finalize the new salary structure.
A statement, issued on Monday, November 4, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, now considers the January 1, 2025 implementation date unrealistic.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) subsequntly obtained an injunction against the strike. The court order signed by Justice Frank Aboadwe Rockson noted that “UPON READING the affidavit of OFOSU ASAMOAH of House No. C199 Norley Afia Street Nmai -Djorn, Accra, the Executive Secretary for the Applicant herein filed on 7th day of November, 2024 in support of Motion Ex-Parte for an order for Interlocutory Injunction:
AND UPON HEARING the submission of ALEXANDER OWUSU JUNIOR ESQ., Counsel for and on behalf of the Applicant herein:

IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDERED that the Respondent by itself, its Executives, Officers, Members, Agents, Servants, Employees and other Persons are to comply with the directives of the National Labour Commission dated 6th November, 2024 and call off the industrial action.”
