Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Paul Kwabena Boafo, has addressed criticism regarding their visit to an illegal mining site in the Eastern Region in 2022.
He labeled claims that they went to the site to pray as “mischievous and erroneous.”

Speaking to a congregation, he expressed disappointment over the insults directed at them on social media.

The clergy faced backlash after a video of them praying at the ‘galamsey’ site went viral in 2022, leading many to question why they chose to engage in prayer rather than advocate for governmental action against illegal mining.

In response, Rt. Rev. Boafo clarified that their visit was not for spectacle but a fact-finding mission.

He asserted that social media comments often stem from ignorance and double standards.

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana expressed concern over the extensive damage inflicted on the nation’s lands and waterways.

“What we witnessed is alarming; our water bodies are now muddy, and urgent action is needed,” he emphasized.
