A viral video of the former minority leader and the member of parliament for Tamale South, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu dancing on a campaign platform has popped up after he initiated the NDC caucus move to become majority in parliament.

In the viral video posted by Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, he was captured making some dance moves while the drummers drummed.

Haruna Iddrisu submitted a formal petition to Speaker Alban Bagbin, which led to the Speaker on 17 October 2024 officially declaring four parliamentary seats vacant. They include Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah of Amenfi Central (NDC), Andrew Amoakoh Asiama of Fomena, Kojo Asante of Suhum (NPP), and Cynthia Morrison of Agona West (NPP).

The petition by the Member of parliament has caused a political tussle in parliament.

The NPP caucus also ran to the Supreme Court to halt the Speaker’s ruling, which had effectively removed the MPs from their positions. This decision followed an application seeking a stay of execution regarding the Speaker’s declaration.

The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has adjourned parliamentary proceedings since 22 October 2024 indefinitely, citing the lack of a quorum as the reason for halting the session.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with the media, he said, “The best forum and best authority to resolve the political tussle is the Supreme Court of Ghana, giving a true and proper interpretation of article 97-1(g) and 8 as it is their mandate”.
