The long-standing conflict was reignited last weekend by the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile and an ambush on travelers, resulting in at least fifteen deaths and several injuries.

In response to the situation, the Ghana Police Service has assured of increased security presence along the Bolga-Tamale highway whilst government has imposed a dust to dawn curfew in Bawku as relative calm returns to the area.
