Eight companies allegedly connected to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s daughters have come under scrutiny following revelations by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that they were involved in the procurement of 307 ambulances for $54.3 million—a sum that has raised serious corruption concerns.

Ablakwa claims the companies secured single-source contracts under questionable circumstances, leading to the purchase of far fewer ambulances than the allocated funds should have covered. According to Ablakwa’s findings, these companies, many of which were formed around the time Akufo-Addo assumed office in 2017, lack prior experience in ambulance importation and appear to be linked to individuals close to the president’s family.

The MP revealed that the same people behind an earlier $34.9 million deal for ambulance spare parts were involved in this new procurement. Among the implicated companies are:

Elok Consult and Services Limited, co-directed by Stephen Okoro, an associate of Akufo-Addo’s daughter, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, reportedly received over $5 million for supplying just 40 ambulances. A performance audit by the Auditor-General highlighted significant overpricing, with each ambulance costing $80,000, which meant that the total funds could have procured 678 ambulances instead of the 307 delivered.

Ablakwa emphasized that even with an added 10% insurance premium per ambulance, the cost would still be inflated by $27.3 million. To make matters worse, the audit found no evidence of insurance premiums being paid on the ambulances.

In light of these findings, Ablakwa has called for a forensic audit into the procurement process and the financial discrepancies. He has also announced plans to update his petition to the Special Prosecutor, demanding accountability for those involved in the inflated ambulance deal.

This scandal is the latest in a series of corruption allegations that have dogged the Akufo-Addo administration, fueling public outrage and demands for greater transparency in government procurement practices.
