Bolgatanga Central MP Isaac Adongo has sparked controversy after bluntly rejecting an invitation from TV3 to debate his political rival, Atia Figo Awonekai, the NPP candidate for the same constituency. Adongo, who is running for re-election on the NDC ticket, made his feelings clear while addressing supporters in Bolgatanga, stating, “TV3 can go to hell. I have more important work to do in other constituencies like Binduri and Tempane, and I won’t waste time on their debate.”

The debate was part of TV3’s Community Manifesto program, designed to bring together parliamentary candidates for discussions on key constituency issues. However, the Bolgatanga Central event faced repeated delays, eventually being rescheduled for later in the evening. Allegedly, the NPP candidate’s team contributed to disruptions, including threats against the network’s equipment, which forced postponements.

Adongo’s refusal has ignited conversations across the political spectrum. His opponents, particularly supporters of the NPP, are questioning why he is avoiding a face-to-face debate with Awonekai. Meanwhile, NDC loyalists have backed Adongo, insisting that his track record in Parliament speaks for itself and that debating Awonekai would be a waste of time.

As a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, Adongo’s decision to snub the debate has added a new layer of intrigue to the upcoming December 7 election. His unapologetic dismissal of the invitation, coupled with his confident stance that his time is better spent elsewhere, has only heightened anticipation around the race in Bolgatanga Central.

Whether Adongo’s bold move will sway voters or backfire remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: his refusal to debate is sure to keep his name in the headlines as election day draws nearer.
