Growing up, it was common to see Ghanaians shiver in fear upon hearing the name Tankas, the adulterated form of the word Town Council.
The Tankas was responsible for ensuring one’s home and community were always kept clean to prevent the spread of diseases in the country.
Back then, Ghana was one of the cleanest countries you could ever visit, with both the streets and homes of citizens being sparkling clean.
However, after the Tankas phased off, the sanitation problem in the country has grown awfully worse, with homes of citizens and streets looking like refuse dumps.
This video reminds us once again of the defining role the Tankas played in Ghana
