An irate Black Stars fan says Mohammed Kudus does not deserve to wear the number 10 jersey for the senior national team.

According to the fan, Ghana’s number 10 jersey is an iconic jersey reserved for special players which Kudus does not fall within.

“It is not like Kudus cannot play, but in today’s game he didn’t perform. How can Kudus afford to miss a simple tap in after Semenyo missed the ball? He (Kudus) was standing there as if he had been voodooed. He should take off the number 10 jersey and wear his number 20 jersey,” he stated.

Kudus initially wore the number 20 jersey to play for the Black Stars, while Andre Ayew wore the number 10 jersey. However, after Andre Ayew’s departure from the team, Kudus picked up the number 10 jersey.

The fan insists the spirit in Ghana’s number 10 jersey is way bigger than Kudus, hence his inability to perform while in the number 10 jersey. “So, he should go and remove the number 10 jersey and wear the number 20 jersey, period.”

In Ghana’s history, players who wore the number 10 jersey for the Black Stars made significant strides for the team.

Abedi Ayew Pele has been rated as one of the best Ghanaian players of all time as he wore the iconic no 10 jersey.

After Abedi Pele retired, Charles Akonnor was named captain of the Ghana Black Stars and was bestowed the no 10 jersey. He captained Ghana in the 2000 African Cup of Nations led to the quarterfinals

Stephen Appiah took over the jersey and the armband eventually after Akonnor departed the Black Stars set up. Appiah led the team to the 2006 World Cup with the no 10 jersey

Kwadwo Asamoah acquired the jersey when Stephen Appiah but could not make it to the 2008 African Cup of Nations. He relinquished it for the 2010 World Cup.

However in December 2011 Kwadwo Asamoah relinquished the jersey for personal reasons prior to the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

Abedi Pele’s son Andre Ayew then took over the jersey for the 2012 African of Nations and wore it until his departure from the Black Stars.
