Reports suggest the Speaker of Parliament is set to host the 2nd General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) in Accra, starting today.

The events follow the NPP caucus calling on the Speaker to reconvene parliament immediately for urgent government business.

The Speaker has not publicly responded to the MPs’ call for recall within the next seven days.

On Friday 18 October 2024 the Supreme Court halted the Speaker’s ruling, which had effectively removed the MPs from their positions. This decision followed an application seeking a stay of execution regarding the Speaker’s declaration.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin on 22 October 2024 adjourned parliamentary proceedings indefinitely, citing the lack of a quorum as the reason for halting the session and briefly mentioned that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court.
