Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus Glover in a shocking twist of event, has revealed the root cause behind President Akufo-Addo’s failed campaign against galamsey.
According to him, some members of the political class are engaged in illegal mining activities, stalling the fight against the menace.
He disclosed that members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), are the ones making the fight against galamsey difficult.
“Our own people involved in galamsey are the ones making the fight (against galamsey) difficult. Our own NPP people. Do you think I am afraid to say it? Our own NPP people make the fight against galamsey difficult. It is a fact,” he boldly stated.
He blamed leaders and political appointees at the district level for the prevalence of galamsey, saying they fail to safeguard their water bodies and forest reserves.
“They say don’t go to river bodies to mine, and you go there. Soldiers are in the bush and on water bodies fighting against galamsey. When the soldiers get rid of all of them, then the district security council and regional security council what do you do,” he asked.
The politician reiterated dissatisfaction over the work of District Chief Executives (DCE) and Municipal Chief Executives in the fight against galamsey. “That is why the president said if you’re an MMDCE and galamsey goes on in your area, then he has an issue with you.”
If you are wondering why Akufo-Addo does not have the political will to fight illegal mining (galamsey), this is the reason provided by the Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover. #ChangeMustCome #MahamaForPresident2024
