A protester has drunk from a bucket of galamsey water during the Concerned Citizens Anti-Galamsey protest.
The unidentified protester after drinking the water asked the government, If I get cholera, will it be fair?’ He then kneeled in a powerful plea to Akufo-Addo, urging an end to galamsey.
He said, “see the water I’m drinking is it fair? Why must I drink this water why why are they doing us like this? I used my own money to pay and I’m not enjoying the water, if I get cholera will it be fair?”.
“Mr. President please I’m begging you, we are tired, for your sake release us from this hardship. Stop galamsey now please, galamsey would not help us in our lives, stop galamsey now period”, the protester kneeling cried out.
Day 2 of the Concerned Citizens Anti-Galamsey protest kicked off with hundreds of demonstrators marching from Okponglo to Parliament House, demanding action against illegal mining.
The demonstration, which will run until October 5, aims to highlight the ongoing environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, locally known as galamsey.
The protesters are also demanding the immediate release of 53 Democracy Hub protesters who were arrested and still in remand during an anti-galamsey demo some weeks ago.
