“I worked for a politician who is now standing to become an MP, these are the people involved in galamsey”, he added.

The masked galamseyer also revealed that officials from the Ghana Forestry Commission take bribes from illegal miners, stating, “So sometimes the forestry will follow the polluted water, and they come to collect something. Sometimes they leave their number and every week we send them something. We send them Ghc600 every week. So, when the forestry commission (officers)come and you sort them out, they will leave you to work, so every week you give their part”.

In a press statement dated October 9, 2024, President Akufo-Addo directed the Minister for Defense to deploy additional military forces to intensify the ongoing “Operation Halt”, which aims to curb illegal mining activities.
