Police and Presidency ranked as Ghana’s most corrupt institutions – Afrobarometer

The afro barometer round 10 survey has ranked the Ghana police service and the office of the president as the most corrupt institutions in the country.

The survey also shows that while the trust of the Ghana armed forces, religious leaders, traditional leaders and NGOs remain relatively strong, the police service, the presidency, tax officials, members of parliament and the judiciary are viewed as the most corrupt in Ghana scoring 63%, 54%, 53%, 51% and 44% respectively.

Additionally, 74% Ghanaians feel corruption has increased over the past years, a slight improvement from 2022.

The survey indicates that 74% of Ghanaians believe corruption has increased in recent years, although this reflects a slight improvement compared to 2022.

Methodology Highlights: Sample: 2,400 adult citizens aged 18 and above.

Interviews: Conducted face-to-face in respondents’ preferred languages.

Margin of Error: +/-2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
Data Collection: August 5 to August 22, 2024.

The survey also tracked trends in perceived corruption among members of parliament and the presidency from 2008 to 2024, consistently indicating significant concerns about corruption in these institutions.
