According to reports, this follows a courtesy visit from the Council of State which sought to understand the recent events in the Legislature that had led to the indefinite adjournment of the House.

The latest tussle in parliament has ended up at the Supreme Court after Speaker Bagbin declared four seats vacant with the NPP caucus running to the Supreme Court.

On Friday 18 October 2024 the Supreme Court halted the Speaker’s ruling, which had effectively removed the MPs from their positions. This decision followed an application seeking a stay of execution regarding the Speaker’s declaration.

The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin on 22 October 2024 adjourned parliamentary proceedings indefinitely, citing the lack of a quorum as the reason for halting the session and briefly mentioned that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court.

Today, the Supreme Court is currently hearing the case of Speaker Bagbin which seeks to overturn an earlier ruling that temporarily stayed his declarations of four parliamentary seats as vacant.
