Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP) has fire back at Dr. Joyce Aryee by releasing a letter detailing how the private contractor constructing the National Cathedral terminated their agreement after the project was suspended.
In a post on X, Hon Ablakwa revealed that RIBADE, the private contractor for the National Cathedral terminated its agreements with its workers on 14 March 2022 when the project was suspended.
Part of his post read, “See how RIBADE, the private contractor constructing the National Cathedral promptly terminated the agreement with its workers on March 14, 2022, when it was obvious the project has been suspended”.
“Contrast this with the theory of Bawumia’s top Campaign Advisor, Joyce Aryee, who describes calls to stop cathedral payments as ridiculous” “ he added.
Dr. Joyce Aryee, a member of the National Cathedral’s board of trustees, justified the payment made to some top National Cathedral officials.
Speaking at a symposium on Monday, October 14, Dr. Aryee said, “If a project is on hold, it doesn’t mean that people are not working to keep it going. I’m surprised, I don’t even want to comment on it, as ridiculous as this. No, I won’t comment”.
Hon. Ablakwa has however questioned if they would pay people for 31 months over a suspended project if it was their private company, “They wouldn’t be paying people for 31 long months over an abandoned project if Ghana was their private company”. Was this the protection of the public purse, President Akufo-Addo promised?” he questioned.
The MP further revealed that his tracking of the National Payroll Database indicates payment will be made to these top National Cathedral officials beyond December 2024.
