NPP spokesperson for health defends Bawumia on PharmD s’ Allowances amid salary controversy

A political activist and NPP spokesperson for health, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh in a heated discussion on GHOne, strongly defended the government’s approach to medical professionals’ allowances.

Responding to claims that doctors had not been paid, she stated, “That is a lie. I know a colleague of mine, Rachel, who has been paid.”
Dr. Amoakoh acknowledged existing issues surrounding allowances for the latest PharmD graduates, especially those from 2022.

Reflecting on her own experiences, she said, “When I was in that position, my allowance was around 800 cedis, while the base salary was over 4,000 cedis.”

Frustrated by what she described as “falsehoods” in partisan politics, she remarked, “It’s quite embarrassing to come on a public forum and spew inaccuracies.”

She pointed to the recent appeals made by PharmD graduates to the Vice President, which have yet to result in a resolution.

During the same discussion, Dr. Amoakoh pressed for clarity, asking, “So which payments are you referring to?” This highlighted her commitment to setting the record straight amid ongoing narratives surrounding the issue.

The 2022 batch of Doctors of Pharmacy (PharmD) on august 24,2024 threaten to sue government over delay in payment of their salaries for the past one year.
