The call for arrests comes after a confrontation between Arthur’s supporters and those of rival candidate Cynthia Morrison escalated into gunfire, injuring several people and casting a shadow over the political event.

The incident unfolded in Agona Nyankrom as Arthur’s supporters returned from a campaign launch.

In the aftermath, Morrison firmly denied any involvement of her team in the violence, asserting that her supporters were not responsible for the chaos that erupted.

“My supporters were peacefully holding a mini-rally when this unfortunate incident happened,” she stated in an interview with Citi News.

“We condemn violence in all forms and urge the authorities to investigate and apprehend those responsible for this attack.”

The chaos erupted when the two groups crossed paths, leading to a flurry of gunshots that left Haruna Rashid, Arthur’s campaign manager, critically injured with a gunshot wound to the ribs.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as one of panic, with people scrambling for safety amidst the sound of gunfire.

Local authorities have since been urged to take swift action to identify and arrest those involved in the shooting, as tensions rise between the rival factions in the lead-up to the elections.

Supporters of both candidates are on edge, fearing further clashes could occur if the situation remains unresolved.
