The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed profound sorrow over the shocking demise of Madam Akua Donkor, Founder and Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party, who passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Madam Akua Donkor emerged onto the national political scene in 2012, demonstrating unwavering commitment to matters of national discourse.

Fearless in her expression, she often articulated her views in the Akan dialect, refusing to be silenced by her lack of formal education. Before rising to prominence, she served multiple terms as an Assembly Member, advocating tirelessly for her community.

A celebrated farmer, Madam Donkor championed the rights of farmers, women, and marginalized groups. Her legacy as one of the few trailblazing Ghanaian women to contest for the presidency stands as a testament to her courage and determination.

In a statement, the NPP leadership remarked, “Her life serves as an inspiration to all Ghanaians. Regardless of gender, educational background, age, class, or religion, every Ghanaian has the potential to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

We encourage all Ghanaian women to aspire to greater heights, taking comfort in the knowledge that if Madam Akua Donkor could achieve so much, they too can succeed.”

We find solace in her legacy of fearless activism and dedication to our beloved country.

The NPP extends its deepest condolences to her bereaved family, particularly her children, the members of the Ghana Freedom Party, and the good people of Afigya Kwabre.

This loss is felt nationwide, and we join in mourning her passing.
