The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission of plotting to allocate the Amenfi seat to the NPP, similar to what they allege occurred in Hohoe.
During a press conference at the NDC headquarters, General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey pointed out that the disqualification of candidate Joana Gyan Cudjoe indicates the EC’s intention to favor the NPP in the Amenfi seat.
In response, the NDC has filed an injunction application to prevent the Electoral Commission from printing parliamentary ballot papers and notices of poll for the Amenfi Central constituency.
This application, submitted to the Accra High Court, follows the EC’s disqualification of Cudjoe, which the electoral body stated was based on an interlocutory injunction issued by the Sekondi High Court.
The order prevents the EC from recognising Mrs Cudjoe as the NDC’s candidate for the December 7 elections.
But the NDC has said the EC proceeding to print ballot papers without resolving the matter would infringe upon the legal process and the rights of their candidate.
The party in the application is therefore requesting the court to issue an order to restrain the EC from printing or distributing ballot materials for Amenfi Central until the legal issues surrounding Cudjoe’s disqualification are fully adjudicated.
