Former gender minister and Member of Parliament for Agona West Cynthia Morrison has refuted claims that her police escort was involved in any wrongdoing, asserting that no shots were fired at her vehicle.
This comes after a shocking incident in which the former Ghanaian Gender Minister narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Agona Nyakrom, Central Region, around 7:40 PM.
An unidentified gunman allegedly targeted Morrison but missed, striking another individual instead.
Morrison defended the police’s actions during the chaotic rally, which left several supporters injured by gunfire. She stated that the police provided crucial protection and coordination, ensuring her safety as they responded to the unfolding situation.
‘’ on the way, my leader called me and said, ‘Cynthia, what is happening in Sweden?’ I’m like, ‘I’m not in Swedru, I’m in Nyakrom. I hear your policeman killed somebody.’” “I said, ‘My policeman? How can my police kill somebody? Who told you? Look, do you know what has happened to me? My policeman was sitting on top; I was standing in the car. Everybody saw him. We had about seven policemen protecting us.’”
The attack occurred during a power outage in the area, adding to the confusion. Morrison and her team quickly sought refuge at a nearby police station to report the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailant’s motive remains unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation into the attempted assassination.
