Captain Smart, a well-known Ghanaian media personality, recently sparked public debate by highlighting the cost disparity involved in transporting the AMERI power plant during the administrations of former President John Mahama and President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to Captain Smart, the Mahama administration reportedly spent $5 million to bring the AMERI plant from Turkey to Ghana, including all logistics for the initial import and setup of the plant. However, he claimed that the Akufo-Addo administration spent an astonishing $35 million to relocate the same power plant from Accra to Kumasi, a domestic move.

The $35 million price tag has drawn significant criticism and accusations of overspending, with critics questioning the justification for such a steep figure to transport the plant within the country.

Energy analysts and public commentators argue that the difference in cost is too high to ignore, especially given that relocating the equipment was initially projected to cost $25.5 million, yet eventually rose to $35.6 million under the current government

The contrast has fueled discussions around transparency, procurement processes, and the necessity of the relocation costs, with calls for further investigation into the reasons for the increased expenditure on the project.
