On Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, John Mahama engaged with leaders of the Ghanaian Christian community. This meeting was a special time of worship, prayer and fellowship.

Addressing the clergy, John Mahama indicated he was a proud member of the Assemblies of God church “and my fate does not permit same sex marriages or relationships, nor does it endorse human-animal relationships or allow people to change their gender as they wish.”

“This is a fundamental belief that I hold, and it is grounded in my faith. I therefore assure you that the promotion of LGBTQ+ will have no place in our schools and communities under my administration,” he stated.

During his address, members of the clergy who were pleased with his remarks rose to their feet and gave a resounding applause to the NDC Presidential Candidate.

He emphasised his commitment to strengthening legislation aimed at curbing the influence and practices of the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.

There has been delays over the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill under the current administration. President Akufo-Addo has yet to sign the bill, citing ongoing legal challenges at the Supreme Court, which has further stalled its progress.
