Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, recently made controversial comments regarding former police Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye, branding him as a “nation wrecker.”

Speaking at a campaign rally, Chairman Wontumi claimed that individuals allegedly being bribed by the opposition NDC to incite violence ahead of the 2024 elections should be wary, as he would act to prevent any unrest.

Chairman Wontumi recounted a past incident involving Kofi Boakye when the latter was a senior police officer in the Ashanti Region.

According to Wontumi, he had previously “shown him something small” to prevent Boakye’s influence from affecting regional stability, suggesting he has experience in dealing with those he perceives as threats to national peace. Chairman Wontumi also emphasized that if there is any violence or gunfire during the election period, he would ensure that Boakye is “banished” from the Ashanti Region.

As part of his message, Wontumi urged NPP supporters to stay vigilant and remain at polling stations after casting their ballots on election day.

He advised them to be prepared to react if any disturbances arise, especially if individuals arrive on motorbikes to instigate violence. His remarks add to rising tensions as Ghana prepares for the upcoming elections, with multiple political stakeholders focusing on maintaining peace amid intense competition.
