The strike action, which was planned for Thursday, October 10, 2024, is to raise concerns about the galamsey crisis and what the association identifies as the government’s inadequate action to address the menace.

According to Organised Labour, the government has shown efforts towards fighting the menace, leading to their decision to suspend the strike.

But speaking on JOY FM on 10 October 2024, Prof. Gyampo revealed that the decision taken was not the decision of Organised Labour but just two individuals, he detailed, “Organised Labour didn’t decide on anything please take note of this, the media, Joshua and CLOGSAG man Bampoe asked you guys to excuse us. We went to the meeting Joshua Ansah came we were expecting him to brief us, but he came with a prepared speech and already signed statement and started reading”.

“Government has done XYZ, and so because of that let’s suspend the strike and then we said are we toddlers or kids who does he think he is, how is he seeing us? we were upset with him, he apologized and decided that he was not going to read and then he went on to outline what the government said”, Prof Gyampo added.

Prof. Gyampo stated they informed him what he outlined was like what they rejected on Monday, and they decided to proceed with their nationwide strike.

He added, “So we were bantering about what has happened Bampoe called in the media, and people started walking out and they read the already prepared speech to the media, Do you see this as an Organised Labour decision?”
